Madrid Barajas airport

The Barajas airport is 12 km from the city centre. It has four terminals T1, T2, T3 and T4 in which some 100 different companies operate. It is among the top five airports in Europe and service is uninterrupted. The airport has public car parks in all terminals as well as Catholic chapels, a mosque, a kinder garden for children up to 12 years old, luggage lockers in terminals 1 and 2, car hire offices, post offices, a children´s play area, first aids kits, Guardia Civil, Policia Nacional and Policía Municipal police stations, a lost property room, different restaurant areas, Wi-fi equipped and VIP rooms. The Barajas airport can be accessed in different ways:

  • By underground: line 8 covers the Nuevos Ministerios-Airport T4 route, estimated travel time is 15 minutes. Metro tickets and bus tickets cost 1€ each (plus 1€ supplement at Airport stations). At underground stations you can buy a combined ticket called "Metrobus" that is valid for ten trips (underground or bus) and costs 6,70 €. The Metro is closed at nights from 2 am to 6 am.   • By bus: Number 200 from Av. de América (T1, T2, T3), number 101 from Canillejas (T1, T2, T3), Number 204 from Av. de América (T4). Shuttle bus: a service free of charge connecting the four terminals
  • By taxi: From the airport to the centre of Madrid a taxi can cost approximately 20 €. The minimum fare is 1.95 € however it depends on the day and the time of the day. From the T4, taxis are taken from the ground floor, and from the T1 they are taken opposite room 2. At T2 they are taken opposite room 5 and at T3, opposite room 7.
  • By car: The airport can be accessed by car via different routes, all of which start at the city centre. These are the M40, the A2, the M11, the R2 and the A1.
  • By train: The Spanish Railroad Netword (Renfe) does not run to the Madrid-Barajas airport. However, long distance train stations, the high speed AVE and regional trains are accessible within just a few minutes by underground. The stations allowing connections between train and underground are the following: Atocha Renfe, Embajadores, La laguna, Aluche, Nuevos Ministerios, Príncipe Pío, Pitis, Recoletos, Méndez Álvaro, Vallecas and Vicálvaro. At the arrivals area in the T1 (ground floor) there is a Renfe office. There you will find information about the railroad network and be able to book and buy long distance and AVE tickets.
