Madrid has twelve underground lines, thre light-rail lines and one branch-line joining the Ópera and Príncipe Pío underground stations. Underground passes vary between 5 and 22.60 € but depending on the days taken, between 1 and 7.

Buses
A total of 209 bus routes managed by the Madrid Transport Municipal Entity (EMT) ensure a conventional means of transport, however very much used in Madrid. Between 6am adn 11.30pm and every 4 to 15 minutes, the buses practically cover the entire city. A single fair costs 1 € but you can also purchase a 10 ticket pass, the metrobús, that for 7 € allows you to combine bus and underground. The EMT has also made available to users a fleet of night buses, also known as "búhos" (owls) that cover the same routes as the day buses.

There are nine regional train lines that cover the community of Madrid. All of these leave or pass through the Atocha station. These lines are ideal for going on outings to the city´s outskirts. A single fare costs 1.15 €.
Taxi
Some 15,000 taxis operate in the city of Madrid. The business tourist will easily recognise them as they are white vehicles with a diagonal red line painted across the front door. We can take a taxi from 6am until 10pm and it will cost 0.92€/km. The rate increses up to 1.06€/km if we intend on taking a taxi between 10pm and 6am. The price at which the meter starts depends on the day and time at which we take the taxi. Taxis can be stopped in the street. However you cannot find one or you are in a hurry, there are different taxi companies you can call and they will pick you up wherever you are. In this case you must bear in mind that the meter will clock on when you call the taxi and not when you get in.

Madrid Vision is the name of the double deck orange bus fleet with an upper floor for a panoramic view of Madrid from another perspective. This means of transport is mainly for tourists and offers passengers two options to get to know Madrid; one through a historical route and another through a modern route. The journey takes approximately 75 minutes and so nobody gets lost with the guide´s explanations, there are audio headphones in eight languages. The route costs 15 €.
